01 / Profile

Practice academy for audio, video and events.

MMS is not a state university. It is a specialist academy focused on audio, video, photography and event technology, embedded in a real production environment. Exactly what makes it interesting for a particular kind of creative.

The Music and Media School offers certificates, diplomas, Bachelor, Master and doctoral degrees in audio engineering, music production, event technology, media composition, video production, photography and media design. The format is blended learning. Online lectures and a learning platform provide the flexibility, intensive on-site phases in professional studios provide the practice that this industry demands.

Recognition runs on two rails. Bachelor degrees are internationally recognised, but not state-recognised by a German accreditation agency. That is no problem in audio and event sectors where portfolio, reel and industry experience count more than the formal title. Anyone seeking a classical German university degree is better placed elsewhere.

Industry strength is the programme. Industry partners are Trident, SSL (Solid State Logic), Seeburg Acoustic Line and AudioPro. The studios hold real tools, not classroom equipment. As instructors and guest mentors MMS works with active professionals from audio, video and event production.

02 Strengths

What MMS stands for

Four profiles where I often recommend MMS.

01

Career change into audio/video

For people switching from a different field into audio engineering, music production or video. Professional Certificate (1 year) and Diploma (2 years) offer two realistic entry points without a high-school diploma requirement.

02

Bachelor while working

For people who work full-time and still want an internationally recognised Bachelor in Audio Production, Composition or Photography. Blended learning makes that possible without forcing full-time study.

03

Event technology and stage

Event technology is one of the few clearly profiled study tracks Germany-wide. If you want to learn event production systematically and bring it to diploma or Bachelor level, you find a rare specialisation here.

04

Master, MBA and doctorate

Beyond Bachelor there is Master, MBA, DBA and PhD in media and music. For practitioners with career goals in teaching, research or senior industry positions.

05 Frequently asked

FAQ on MMS

What you should know before applying.

Status and recognition

Are MMS Bachelor degrees state-recognised?

MMS Bachelor degrees are internationally recognised but not state-recognised by a German accreditation agency. If you want a classical German Bachelor from a state university, MMS is the wrong place. If you want hands-on practice, industry mentors and an internationally valid certificate in audio, video or events, MMS is the right place.

What are Professional Certificate and Professional Diploma worth?

Both are industry-relevant and accepted in audio, video and event sectors, but they are not state-recognised. In these industries portfolio, reel and studio experience count more than the formal title. In a first call I clarify what fits your career goal.

Studies and admission

Do I need a high-school diploma to study at MMS?

No. Professional Certificate and Diploma require only a middle-school qualification and a minimum age of 17. For Bachelor and Master programmes there are entry routes without a high-school diploma, for example via work experience. Apart from the Music Certificate there is no entrance exam.

How does blended learning work at MMS?

Studies run via weekly online lectures and a learning platform with scripts, video tutorials and forums. On top there are intensive on-site phases in professional audio, video and photography studios with a maximum of eight students per group. This allows part-time study alongside work.

What does studying at MMS cost?

Tuition varies by programme and level. Exact figures come directly from MMS. In the first call at Studienflüsterer I check which funding routes are possible and whether another path may be cheaper.

Who teaches at MMS?

Active industry professionals as instructors and guest mentors. The studios are real production facilities with industry references, not pure teaching rooms. Industry partners include Trident, SSL (Solid State Logic), Seeburg Acoustic Line and AudioPro.
